CV's have changed since you last looked for a job. Trust us.
These days you won't get onto the interview short-list by simply listing your basic job functions. Employers are not interested in your responsibilities, what you do from day to day. Employers want to know the value that you are bringing to the table. They want to know your successes, how you contribute to the organisation, how you show initiative, what makes you different from other candidates, and above all, how will you will meet their needs. That’s what they want to see. So how do you go about showcasing your value? It’s 2016 and the good news is that employers are more informed than ever about the benefits of work flexibility. They know now through research that employees who enjoy work-life balance are happier. And this in turn translates into better morale, a better work environment, and ultimately more committed and productive workers. In fact, to attract and hold on to top talent, offering workplace flexibility is almost mandatory in today’s workplace climate. Best of all, research shows that when workplace flexibility works it’s a win-win for both employee and employer.

Not Sure Where - Or How - To Begin Your Job Search? Our Job Search Guide For Working Mums Will Help.9/20/2016 If it has been a long while since you looked for a job, you probably don’t quite remember where - or how - to begin. Plus you may have found that the job search process has changed rapidly over the past few years...
Now that the kids are back at school, I know a lot of mums will be ramping up their job search efforts. As a career consultant, I field a multitude of job search questions every day, so today I thought I would share my answers to the 4 questions I most commonly get asked by return-to-work women looking to find that ideal, family-friendly role. After the long summer break, the kids are back to school next week. Are you ready to jump back into work and make the most of the last four months of the year to get you where you want to be?
The women I work with know I'm a big fan of 90-day action planning. Whether you're looking to discover a new career direction, make a smooth return to work after maternity leave, or start your own business, having a concrete plan in place will give you the focus and motivation to accomplish what you set out to achieve. Maybe you’re a mum that is taking a few tentative steps towards returning to work after a long career break. Or maybe you are just finally listening to that little voice that has been long telling you to that chase that dream job.
I have not only seen the challenges that women seeking a career change face in my work as a career consultant, but I’ve lived it too. I took a career break to look after my two young sons, and also relaunched my career when I felt it was time, so I know first hand how it can be daunting. Did you vow to make this the year you figure out what you want to do and be post-baby? If you're not there yet, don't panic. There's still time to make progress before 2016 comes to an end.
Where should you start? Your very first move should be to get to know yourself better. The more you understand yourself and your motivations, the more informed and productive your career search process will be, and the more likely you'll find a career that is right for you. If you're planning a return to work when the kids are back at school, the summer holidays are the perfect time to grab some time to yourself and make preparations for your upcoming home-to-workplace transition - while still taking a much needed break of course!
